Biography
You may call me Goldie, if you dare. The very bold might even buy me a drink while the brashest of you all may sit down with me to match wits and words which I will enjoy. However be warned, you may not. My coming to the Harbour was a strange series of events indeed, I was a long way from Amsterdam which was by design and on the wrong side of the law – an admitted misstep on my part. Whether those that come looking for me are actual officers of the law or agents of my father is irrelevant, I’ll die before I go back. Someone died before I left as well but I can say plainly that I have no regrets on that account. Common practice may have supported my father trading me with another family for money and goods like some broodmare however the idea never sat well with me. Truly my husband to be was a boorish man, pig headed and spoilt. Soft hands and a cold heart, my mother implored me that I would learn to love him over time…I found I had neither to spare on that poor excuse for a man. It is true that there may have been a more discreet means of ending our ill- fated engagement than at the party celebrating exactly that event, but my patience was exhausted and his advances repulsed me. I left before his body could be hauled to the undertakers, quite a job that man had ahead of him, my late fiancé had taken quite a beating. For certain it would require the most skilled of bone saws to put that maimed corpse to rights. He should have known better. It was in fact, my mother who helped spirit me away on the next ship leaving port. With her jewels as payment and my wits as my sword I soon found myself among a hoard of brash and bawdy sailors, and I’d never felt so at home. The icy stare of Jettie Ali, Harbourmaster matched my own as we sat and shared a drink one steaming summer day. She regarded me as she might some insect or rare bird, skeptical about my resolve and my ability to do what must be done regardless of cost to my person or pride. And who could blame her? Before that day at the Pub I had never waited on a single soul or scrubbed a single pot, I was in a word – spoiled. I was however resolute in my intention and once again my way with words paved the way. She had a wicked streak in her as well, and it wasn’t long before both of us came to find the sister family had denied us in one another. I serve a new Harbourmaster now. As his envoy accompanied by my fellow crew, who I hold in my heart as family, we oversee those who would join our ranks as I did once. We strive to make you strong and hard, but also to usher you home should you find it drifts among these brigands, assassins and thieves. I may be a hard and haughty specter of my former cosseted self but no matter where I wander there are things that still resonate. I have an eye for strong men, stronger spirits and beautiful clothes, I am usually found among both dressed to the hilt in the latter. Join me, if you dare.
